The Chef’s Academy at Harrison College takes a different approach to culinary education. We pride ourselves on truly knowing our students – their obstacles, challenges and motivations. We also know their potential, which is why our mission is to provide a supportive, empowering environment for our students to succeed. With Harrison College’s legacy of more than 100 years of service, we know that our students’ success doesn’t just benefit their lives – it impacts their families, friends and communities. That’s what makes us different.
The Chef’s Academy gives food-inspired students the opportunity to grow their passion into a career. With campuses in Indiana and North Carolina, our unique and collaborative environment provides students with a hands-on experience in the kitchen starting the first day of class. Whether students are nurturing a lifelong passion or exploring a new career path, The Chef’s Academy offers motivated individuals a chance to build a fulfilling career in culinary arts or pastry arts.
The Chef’s Academy team is committed to helping students achieve success and improve their lives. What kind of success? Not just job success, but life success – happiness, pride and personal fulfillment. Our students’ stories, challenges and triumphs inspire our faculty and staff every day. These relationships are our foundation.
Our approach to education is focused on providing a support system that helps our students achieve their own success through hard work and dedication. From our experienced chefs and caring faculty to our involvement in the community, we offer students the real world experience they need to feel confident as they pursue a career in the food industry.
You can fire up a new career with help from Auguste Escoffier Schools of Culinary Arts. We offer two programs for careers in the culinary industry, including culinary arts and pastry arts.
OCI is a subsidiary of Pioneer Pacific College, independent and locally-owned. Founded by two partners who have been part of the Portland food scene for over 25 years, OCI was designed as a culinary institute that puts students first.
Our curriculum emphasizes real world, hands-on training. Our knowledgeable and experienced chef instructors are committed to student success, and teach skills that graduates will actually use in their careers. You will be an active participant in your education, in both classrooms and labs. And you'll have the opportunity to work in our own student-operated fine-dining restaurant. The experience is well rounded and designed to result in graduates who possess the confidence they need to enter the workforce successfully.
Beyond skills training, we focus on a fresh farm-to-table approach to cooking, while teaching food ethics and the business of owning and operating a restaurant in today’s world of sustainable responsibility and practice. It’s a curriculum not often taught, but one we believe to be invaluable.
We take cooking seriously, but we have fun as we go. Our goal is to foster an environment that instills a love for learning, even long after graduation. Your OCI experience may take you out of the classroom and into the wild with trips to forage for mushrooms or for edible inner tidals.
Portland cuisine has become the stuff of legend, and it leads the way for the rest of the nation. Farm-to-table. Seasonal. Focus on local. These are not the exceptions in Portland, but the norm. Looking for the next big culinary trend? Look to Portland. We believe if you can work in Portland, you can work anywhere.
Looking for a great educational experience to launch your culinary career? For job opportunities while going to school, externship placements with your goals in mind, and post-graduate jobs? Then look to OCI.
